00:00:53.35 Jon You look like you got some sun, Stanley.

00:00:53.74 Stan Lemon Jonathan, I did. Yes, I did. Um, I went to a lacrosse game this morning and then I went to actually yesterday. went to attract me then a then lacrosse game this morning and then i went for a bike ride.

00:01:07.88 Stan Lemon So I spent a lot, I'm a little crispy because of those three adventures. Um,

00:01:13.64 Jon On the plus side, it looks like you got most of the sun at one of the non-helmet wearing activities. So...

00:01:21.23 Stan Lemon yeah Yeah. The line, I need a new helmet, actually. It's funny you bring this up. I need a new helmet. um i Did you know that car seats expire?

00:01:30.41 Jon Yes.

00:01:31.31 Stan Lemon Yeah. Okay. I don't know that everybody knows that, but apparently helmets expire for basically the same reason that car seats expire. So...

00:01:41.74 Jon Makes sense.

00:01:43.08 Stan Lemon Mike, my, uh, my helmet is eight years old, which, which might be a little old. Uh, I bought it because I was driving to go to a trail and I forgot my helmet.

00:01:54.79 Stan Lemon And so I swung into a bike shop and bought it. I remember very clearly it was shortly after i moved into this house.

00:02:01.67 Jon Um, that means my bike helmet is probably close to the same amount of years old, if not older. So I should probably get a new one too, if I ever make it on the bike this year.

00:02:10.47 Stan Lemon Yeah. if You're going to make it you're gonna make it on the bike, John. i know i know you are.

00:02:14.06 Jon I know. It's just been so windy, now it's raining, but...

00:02:19.24 Stan Lemon So I basically strategize around the weather at this point. I'm just like, you know, we'll plan around. Like I'm just going to look at the calendar. If there's no rain, I'm going for it. It doesn't matter what it is. I was i was trying to look up here on my phone and tell you what I am at for mileage. let's We'll do the over-under.

00:02:40.46 Stan Lemon What do you think? What think I am for annual mileage?

00:02:45.77 Jon I don't know, you've been going close to 30.

00:02:46.38 Stan Lemon April 12th. We're recording April 12th.

00:02:47.87 Jon You've been going close to 30 miles every time you've been out. So I'm going let's

00:02:53.45 Stan Lemon It's been about 25 actually. It's been about 25 actually, yeah.

00:02:57.21 Jon let's say 170.

00:02:59.11 Stan Lemon o Ooh, ooh, he overshot. is Are we playing practice right rolls?

00:03:00.78 Jon Oh. because I i had 30 in my mind, Stan.

00:03:06.51 Stan Lemon So the shortest that I've done 24. The most until today had been 26 and a half. Today I 32.

00:03:14.86 Jon Mm.

00:03:16.33 Stan Lemon the So the total for the year is drum roll, 156.09 miles.

00:03:23.79 Jon OK.

00:03:24.20 Stan Lemon So I feel like that's pretty good for the second, basically the second week of April.

00:03:28.33 Jon That is extremely good, Stan.

00:03:31.20 Stan Lemon It's funny though. I haven't done anything. i haven't done anything that I would consider short, but today's ride was very different. um I've went at a, I think, I think Strava said endurance pace, but which I think is, I think it's Strava's a way of saying you were slower today.

00:03:42.72 Jon OK.

00:03:46.47 Stan Lemon um But I went, I went for ride with Mrs.

00:03:46.56 Jon Hmm.

00:03:48.15 Stan Lemon Lemon and um she doesn't power,

00:03:50.54 Jon You probably shouldn't say these things, Stan, because like she's going to kick it into gear and leave you in the dust.

00:03:56.11 Stan Lemon Oh, yeah. and Not the way that today went. I told her it was great. I was able to do some intervals. um And I teched on an extra two miles while she was resting at one point. So it's it's all good. It's all good. like It all worked out.

00:04:09.71 Jon Has noah gone out with you yet?

00:04:12.30 Stan Lemon No. And I don't know if Noah listens to the podcast, but Noah is definitely jeopardizing my 2026 goals. So I said 35 cycling rides, 15 with Noah. And I guess i'm I've got to be five or six in the bag now and zero with Noah.

00:04:31.27 Stan Lemon So i don't know.

00:04:32.52 Jon And you've been enjoying it, and you've been exploring new parts of your trails. So my guess is you exceed your 35 miles, 35 rides.

00:04:42.70 Stan Lemon i i think I think there's a decent shot. oh here here's Okay, so here's here's what I was reflecting today. So if you remember last year, I had this goal of hitting 50-mile ride, and I did like 49 and a third or 49 and a half, somewhere in there, right?

00:04:55.18 Stan Lemon Like that was it was just short of it.

00:04:55.46 Jon Yeah. Yeah.

00:04:56.78 Stan Lemon And I was completely gassed. Today, i did the 32, and I swear to you, I could have done another 10. So i think I think I have to spend some time dialing in on the pacing because the last few times I've gone out, right I've been like, let's see how hard I can push for 20, 25 miles. Today, i was riding Mrs. Lemon, different pacing. like i was...

00:05:19.61 Stan Lemon I was cruising again, Strava called it endurance miles. So then I got to thinking like, you know, if I paste 50 out this way, I bet I wouldn't be gassed, you know, but knowing me, I'll do it when it's in like the the peak heat of early August.

00:05:30.81 Jon Yep.

00:05:35.58 Stan Lemon Right.

00:05:36.61 Jon Right. Because that's how you roll.

00:05:37.57 Stan Lemon Yeah. That's how roll.

00:05:39.50 Jon Maybe you should shoot for it for like next week.

00:05:39.71 Stan Lemon All right. Hey,

00:05:43.40 Stan Lemon Oh, dude, we've got rain coming in, all week.

00:05:45.80 Jon You got all the rain that I currently have.

00:05:47.21 Stan Lemon Yeah, exactly. It's coming this way. And, and I don't, you know, if there's, if there's a break in it, but the other thing is like on a weeknight, you can only do so much, you know?

00:05:56.20 Jon Right.

00:05:57.23 Stan Lemon Um, and I'm going to be gone next weekend.

00:05:58.54 Jon So 50 should take you at a comfortable pace four hours.

00:06:05.51 Stan Lemon Yeah, hopefully, hopefully I would hope it'd be a little less actually, but, um, Yeah. Let me think about this. what what i

00:06:16.94 Stan Lemon did i I think it should be under four hours, Sean. I'm going to like for riding time. I'm going to have a break somewhere that 50 miles. Like I'm going to stop. I'm going to make sure my tuck is still feels okay. You know?

00:06:28.23 Stan Lemon But I'm still trying to find new bibs. The pair I got from Pearl Izumi, not great. um I got a pair of, ah I think they're called Black Bibs. black I think that's right.

00:06:41.49 Stan Lemon I'm trying to remember. They're a weird name.

00:06:42.66 Jon I have no idea.

00:06:43.69 Stan Lemon this I posted a picture on Instagram of the reviews for these because um they were...

00:06:49.74 Jon I don't think I saw that.

00:06:51.34 Stan Lemon Oh, this, okay, let me see if I can find this while we're while we're talking, because this was pretty amazing. Yeah, they're called The Black Bibs, The with a capital T. And when I clicked, so first of all, I go to buy these, and they have five 5.0 ratings, right?

00:07:05.48 Stan Lemon And this is this is, there's a guy named Daz.

00:07:05.70 Jon Come.

00:07:08.67 Stan Lemon Daz, I don't know who you are, but I would love to meet you. I'd love to ride with you is what it is. This is what Daz says. He goes, these bibs are perfect for a Clydesdale cyclist like myself. says I'm not a big guy, not an XC Whippet. I'm not a fluffy build either. Not that there's a problem with that.

00:07:25.15 Stan Lemon I'm built like a football defensive end that's softened up to lineman weight. I'm working on that. My powerful glutes, quads, and hamstrings had most bibs shifting downward. This forced a reverse Picard maneuver.

00:07:38.76 Stan Lemon This had me constantly pulling my previous bibs up. The black bibs stay put under load, hard pedaling, and general fat guy biking.

00:07:49.55 Stan Lemon The black bibs also work excellent as a base layer if you prefer the mountain bike baggy look over the middle-aged man in Lycra mammal look. The black bibs are big man approved. this is ah This is a fantastic review, right? Like, first of all, he opens up, perfect for a Clydesdale cyclist like myself.

00:08:09.44 Stan Lemon That's awesome, right? But then this forced to reverse Picard maneuver, he's a Trekkie too, right? Yeah.

00:08:15.21 Jon Yep.

00:08:16.11 Stan Lemon Oh man, I don't know. It's just, it's just great. I was, I was all all for this. So I bought a pair of these. They're actually, they're pretty decent. they They're only like 50 bucks. They were nothing. I got another pair of Castellanis, excuse me, Castellis coming.

00:08:30.09 Stan Lemon um We'll see how they fit, but I might, I might be all in on the black bib.

00:08:34.16 Jon All right. Well, good for you, Stan. And hopefully they last you another eight years like your first ones.

00:08:38.92 Stan Lemon No, no, Listen, got to replace these sooner, man. i'm the I was looking at the last pair that I wore before I started trying to find the new pair. And the pad is like, it's starting to crumble, man. Like I can feel it in there.

00:08:52.78 Jon Not good.

00:08:52.87 Stan Lemon Yeah, it's too it's too long, right? So so i've I've been asking myself, like, is it is it hours? Is it time, like, you know, over the span of time? Or is it miles that I should use to gauge bib replacement?

00:09:06.02 Stan Lemon So metric one, miles, like we're probably, I'm going to say 3,000 miles on these bibs. seems Seems like a bit much, right? Metric two hours, I mean, what's, hold on, let me let me just do the math here. So I'm say, we'll say like 200 hours, okay? 200 hours.

00:09:25.77 Stan Lemon two hundred hours that's That's a lot of time, right? Ask yourself like, yeah I mean, i well, no, I'm not going ask that. And then then the the last is is like total span of time, right?

00:09:36.79 Stan Lemon Because I'm guessing that these polyethylene or whatever is break down. That's eight years. that's I just think all those metrics are in the wrong spectrum or part of the spectrum.

00:09:46.53 Jon There's probably a number of washes metric in there somewhere too.

00:09:50.83 Stan Lemon Oh, yeah, yeah. Well, I wonder, let me just... I'm gonna guess 120 washes.

00:10:01.74 Stan Lemon alright I see you drinking a glass of wine. Tell me, because I think you opened this bottle up right before we started.

00:10:04.33 Jon Yes.

00:10:06.63 Stan Lemon What what are you what are you drinking tonight?

00:10:09.71 Jon I am drinking pina granacha.

00:10:14.68 Stan Lemon Ooh.

00:10:14.76 Jon So a Spanish granache, which I have had this bottle before. It's from one the Wall Street wart Journal um wine box that they sent me.

00:10:25.64 Jon And I really like it. I can read the back if you want me to.

00:10:29.55 Stan Lemon Yeah, do it, man.

00:10:31.31 Jon Every year, Kalatiyad celebrates the Festival of San Roque when everyone dresses in their tribe or club pina colors. These pinas are based on hobbies, professions, and in our special case, the grape that calls Kalatiyad home, Grenasha.

00:10:49.42 Jon Dressed in purple, we grant and sing through the town streets, celebrating the region's rich winemaking history. This is the Wild West, a landscape almost like the moon, but somehow gnarly old bush vines thrive in this harshest of environments. Our granacha is what Spain does best.

00:11:06.06 Jon With rich dark fruits on the nose and spicy chocolate and mocha on the palate, it packs an elegant punch, drink with lamb cutlets, or a succulent cut of steak, and become the newest member of Pina Granacha.

00:11:19.78 Stan Lemon So you you happen to be alone batching it up right now. Did you make yourself lamb cutlets for dinner?

00:11:26.83 Jon I did not. I don't know that I have ever cooked lamb. Maybe be ground lamb.

00:11:32.75 Stan Lemon what about What about steak? Did you have steak

00:11:35.37 Jon i did not. I had chicken.

00:11:38.73 Stan Lemon you have steak? You're by yourself and you had chicken?

00:11:41.56 Jon Yes.

00:11:43.69 Stan Lemon okay Okay. It sounds like your decision-making was questionable at best.

00:11:49.99 Jon Maybe. i I've got another week, Stan.

00:11:53.98 Stan Lemon right, well, you should eat lots of red meat. I feel like you'll live your best life eating lots of red meat.

00:12:00.67 Jon All right.

00:12:01.55 Stan Lemon All right, so I'm actually having a glass of something called Sonnens. It is a Napa Valley wine, vintage 2023. It's just labeled as a red blend.

00:12:11.88 Stan Lemon The tasty notes are plum, definitely plum. Chocolate, very subtle on the front of the palate, and violet, which I get absolutely none of. Now, I'm also not, like, I don't get anything floral is what I should say, because I don't know that I would be able to, on a cold smell, cold me like I've not smelled anything else, identify violet.

00:12:35.34 Jon Fair enough.

00:12:35.63 Stan Lemon but do you think Do you think you could call on violet?

00:12:38.70 Jon Probably if it was there.

00:12:40.46 Stan Lemon Man, I don't know. i I'm not getting anything floral today. It's not a bad wine. It's it's just kind of like a little...

00:12:47.43 Jon So Violet's going to come off more perfumey than

00:12:52.43 Stan Lemon Yeah, maybe.

00:12:52.52 Jon anything else.

00:12:52.91 Stan Lemon i don't know. Maybe. Maybe. it's if If it's there, it's it's subtle.

00:12:56.31 Jon I'm thinking Violet and smelling my wine, so like you've got me all thrown off.

00:12:59.85 Stan Lemon Ah, yeah there you go.

00:13:01.23 Jon ah

00:13:01.55 Stan Lemon You have a violet wine. um While, so I've been trying first leaf. I think I told you about this.

00:13:10.22 Jon Yes. Can you send me things?

00:13:11.21 Stan Lemon Okay. So I have, the case I got had a rosé Grenache.

00:13:18.92 Jon Yes.

00:13:21.26 Stan Lemon Holy cats, Jonathan. Like it was spectacular. And, uh, decided, I don't know what made me think that on Friday afternoon, i was going to start with this bottle, but I did. And I had a fantastic Gemini experience where I posted on LinkedIn, but I figured I'd tell you about it now i and just get your reaction.

00:13:42.57 Stan Lemon So i'm in I'm actually in a meeting. I'm meeting with one of my coworkers and talking about stuff. And I look at my watch and I'm like, oh, shoot. If I'm going to have a rosé, I need to get that sucker chilled, right?

00:13:55.87 Jon Yep.

00:13:56.30 Stan Lemon And so I look at my youngest child and I tell her, go get the bottle of pink from downstairs, take a picture of it with Gemini and ask how long this particular bottle needs to be chilled for and how long before, you know, I'm going to drink it. It should be pulled out. Right. These are really important aspects. and And I'm, I'm no fool. Like I think this could be different based upon bottle, right there. Maybe there's something about the rosé of Grenache that is fundamentally different here.

00:14:26.28 Stan Lemon You know,

00:14:27.02 Jon Sure.

00:14:28.11 Stan Lemon So ah my youngest, who is a aspiring sommelier, goes downstairs ah to the, I haven't racked it yet. It's it's a box of of the last shipment from First Leaf. She pulls out the pink bottle, comes upstairs, takes a picture of Gemini. And what happens next, John?

00:14:47.63 Jon Gemini says

00:14:49.84 Stan Lemon Gemini says no. It actually said like you are underage because it knows of this from her Google profile, right? And that I can't answer you. And um I was kind of tickled by that, to be honest with you. Now, she was smart. She grabbed my phone, plugged in my password, which she knows, opened up ChatGPT, took a picture, got the answer she needed, put it in the fridge and then set a timer so she could extract it um because I gave her like a 4.30 p.m. target time for her first port.

00:15:19.98 Stan Lemon So i'm not sure what's more impressive, the robots or the 11 year old.

00:15:20.49 Jon I like it.

00:15:26.63 Jon Probably the 11-year-old.

00:15:28.07 Stan Lemon Probably an 11-year-old. Interestingly, she inquired if she needed to decant this one, which I i was like i was pretty pleased that she asked, right?

00:15:36.31 Jon I

00:15:36.91 Stan Lemon She knew it was different. um And yeah I told her, no, we don't need to decant the rosé, but we just got to keep it chilled. so But yeah, that was that was spectacular.

00:15:45.51 Jon ah like it.

00:15:47.60 Stan Lemon It spectacular wine. Then um I had Kohlmeier guests, not you, but I had Kohlmeier guests, and I had a

00:15:53.29 Jon Not me. You probably aren't going to see me this year, Stan. Maybe November.

00:15:57.20 Stan Lemon Oh, John, say it's not so. i I had a Tempranillo from Spain that I opened up and Mrs.

00:16:04.71 Jon Nice.

00:16:06.18 Stan Lemon Kohlmeyer liked. So, all right.

00:16:08.73 Jon I believe that.

00:16:10.67 Stan Lemon It was a 2024. It was delicious. Lots of flavor, just really great mouthfeel. Then night two while she was here, I opened up a Shirah from South. ah No, sorry. I'm sorry. I did not do the Shirah. It was a Malbec from Mendoza.

00:16:26.03 Stan Lemon Um, and that one fell flat. Like, I don't know if it was just too young. It was a 2024. Um, but it just didn't, there was nothing going on. Um, today, as I mentioned, the Sonnens red, red blend from Napa Valley, um, which totally approachable, but I, I'm all this to say, Jonathan, I like this first leaf stuff.

00:16:49.51 Jon Maybe I'll check it out. I haven't been annoyed by Wall Street Journal wine yet. um If they keep sending me bottles that I've already had, then maybe I will.

00:16:58.06 Stan Lemon I would say the last discovery box was less of a discovery than I expected it to be. um And it's every, it's what, every three months that they send a discovery box.

00:17:11.28 Stan Lemon Firstly, if we'll send you a box, at whatever schedule you want, right? So you choose.

00:17:14.84 Jon Sure.

00:17:16.43 Stan Lemon They've got a pretty banging app too. i was pretty pleased with the app and you know me, like I'll, if the app is good, I'll do almost anything. But yeah, but

00:17:25.13 Jon At what point do you just start buying your own cases of wine, Stan?

00:17:29.61 Stan Lemon I mean, I have done that, but I, I like trying new different things. The, the kicker here for me at least is I get different stuff and they're adapting what they're, what I'm choosing based upon like or dislike.

00:17:44.39 Stan Lemon Um, and you know, the, the wall street journal stuff is just kind of like, here's, here's the discovery box for this month.

00:17:44.60 Jon Yeah.

00:17:51.13 Stan Lemon Boom. And you're off to the races. Um, So i think I think I like this better so far. ill I'll say this too. I plug all of the bottles I buy into the app Cellar Eye. i rack it and i ah record it. And I've noticed, interestingly, that all of the First Leaf stuff is basically at the beginning of its drinkable period.

00:18:12.69 Jon Hmm.

00:18:14.03 Stan Lemon Probably 70% of the Wall Street Journal stuff is in a hold state.

00:18:20.27 Stan Lemon So I don't like, I mean, I don't know what what's backing their decision-making. It could just be age. I would hope it's like age and region and like, you know, what what happened that year. But that's also been interesting to me. And again, I don't know what to make of it, so.

00:18:35.29 Jon interesting um on facebook i had a memory about a bottle of wine from before i drank wine um it's when product placement got me the nine years ago after the Chicago Cubs won the World Series.

00:18:51.79 Jon So I have a 2016 Chicago Cubs World Championship wine that is still on my cellar.

00:18:52.11 Stan Lemon Oh.

00:18:59.31 Jon At this point, it's probably well past its um peak drinking state, but I'll have to come up with a reason to open it sometime.

00:19:07.66 Stan Lemon What would the Cubs have to do this year to just force you open it?

00:19:14.22 Jon I mean, if they win the World Series, I would open it for sure.

00:19:18.28 Stan Lemon Okay, but that's probably not going happen.

00:19:20.17 Jon Probably not this year.

00:19:22.25 Stan Lemon Okay, so you want what you are.

00:19:22.63 Jon I don't know, Sam. I think that is one that I probably want to open with other people.

00:19:29.74 Stan Lemon What do you think the odds... ah Do you remember what you paid for the bottle?

00:19:34.06 Jon My guess is probably around 20 bucks.

00:19:37.16 Stan Lemon What do you think the odds are that this is a decent bottle of wine?

00:19:40.62 Jon Very, very slim. Especially nine years later.

00:19:44.36 Stan Lemon Yeah,

00:19:44.94 Jon ah

00:19:45.47 Stan Lemon Well, in... Yeah, i bet I bet you've got a like strong, raisiny, maybe syrupy texture to it. um

00:19:53.32 Jon At best, yeah.

00:19:54.57 Stan Lemon Yeah. i i don't know if you have...

00:19:56.35 Jon It's a cat's salve, so...

00:19:58.31 Stan Lemon Okay. okay All right. Well, there's that. um I don't know if you have other friends that you drink wine with, but I would recommend that you have them over when you pop this. Basically, not me.

00:20:09.81 Stan Lemon Not me.

00:20:10.19 Jon At this point, I think there's probably 50% chance that we taste it and we pour the rest out in the drain.

00:20:16.55 Stan Lemon Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, here's the Cubs, Jonathan.

00:20:21.14 Jon There we go.

00:20:21.93 Stan Lemon I guess, I guess my pirates have been playing. i don't, I don't know though. I haven't, here's the crazy thing.

00:20:26.51 Jon When was the last time we watched baseball, Stan?

00:20:26.74 Stan Lemon When's the last time i watched baseball? Well, we went out to Pittsburgh a couple of years ago and we went and saw a game in person.

00:20:35.50 Jon Was this before or after they ruined the National League?

00:20:35.58 Stan Lemon Oh,

00:20:40.12 Stan Lemon it was after national league has been ruined for a long time.

00:20:43.12 Jon Well, like with the designated hitter and the play clock.

00:20:43.15 Stan Lemon Um, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jonathan, you're behind.

00:20:46.89 Jon and

00:20:47.68 Stan Lemon that's been That's been going around for a while.

00:20:49.19 Jon So the first game I went to where I saw that, I was i was out in Boston, actually.

00:20:49.67 Stan Lemon Play clock.

00:20:53.47 Jon Um...

00:20:55.21 Stan Lemon The play clock has been in play since... um what was What was the guy... Oh, he was the angry guy. he used to throw the the bases for the Cubs.

00:21:03.66 Jon um

00:21:04.71 Stan Lemon The coach. Oh, my gosh. Chicago Cubs coach through bases.

00:21:09.71 Jon so spaces

00:21:11.34 Stan Lemon What was his name? I cannot believe that I am...

00:21:12.68 Jon I can picture him. I can't remember his name.

00:21:15.88 Stan Lemon No.

00:21:19.15 Stan Lemon This is going to kill me when when i right, it's not coming up. Let's, coaches. i this This is going to bug me until we find it. And...

00:21:32.71 Stan Lemon Oh, you know what? this is This is where AI is so stupid. Chicago Cubs head coaches.

00:21:37.50 Jon Lupinella.

00:21:38.63 Stan Lemon Lou Piniella. Yeah, Lou Piniella. you remember Lou Piniella? Yeah.

00:21:41.55 Jon Of course. Really?

00:21:42.39 Stan Lemon Gosh, he was a cantankerous son of a gun. Yeah, he I'll never forget this. This is how long ago this was. I was still in Pittsburgh when they started doing the play clock, right?

00:21:51.98 Jon really

00:21:52.01 Stan Lemon And yeah, man, because I remember the first year that happened, Lou Piniello was still coaching. And he took, he he did timeout, was going to go talk to the pitcher on the mound, and he took his sweet time. It was the first game after this was all emotion. And I'm i'm telling you, like, you have never seen a man walk so slow to the pitcher's mound as Lou Piniella did.

00:22:15.88 Stan Lemon And it was, i don't know, it's kind of magic. I just, I appreciate how much he was like, you know, giving it to the man, as it were. But okay, as far as me and baseball though, just to be clear, a couple years ago, maybe three or four years ago, we went to ah Pirates game when we were out in Pittsburgh.

00:22:32.91 Stan Lemon um Not last summer, but the summer before, I had actually a partial season ticket plan to the Indianapolis Indians, the feeder for the Pittsburgh Pirates. It is difficult to stream a Pirates game here because of blackouts.

00:22:46.59 Stan Lemon here's Here's the thing. Oh, and even a few years back over spring training, I actually went down to Bradenton, Florida, took the whole family during one of our Disney trips, and we went and saw the Pirates play there.

00:22:56.87 Stan Lemon So I am still nominally a Pirates fan, but here's here's the interesting thing about this year.

00:22:57.39 Jon Nice.

00:23:02.64 Stan Lemon T-Mobile gave me a free MLB TV subscription, so I could potentially watch a game if it's not like that.

00:23:09.01 Jon If it's not blacked out.

00:23:11.01 Stan Lemon yeah

00:23:12.15 Jon You're probably more likely to be able to catch it on ah Apple TV.

00:23:15.59 Stan Lemon At this point, yeah, on a Friday night, yeah. Yeah, this is, sometimes I think to myself, like, you know, there's there's a part of the Pirates that is nostalgic for me from the early days of my marriage.

00:23:26.47 Stan Lemon But maybe maybe i should just pick a different team, you know? Like, Pittsburgh doesn't even like the Pirates anymore. And they've got they've got the crappiest owners in the entire major leagues.

00:23:38.19 Jon Fair enough. Well, we went out to a Reds game since you've been in Indiana. Yep.

00:23:46.09 Stan Lemon I was in Seymour. That was over eight years ago, Jonathan.

00:23:49.26 Jon It was cold. It was snowing.

00:23:49.87 Stan Lemon Yeah.

00:23:51.75 Jon But we had great truffle fries beforehand.

00:23:52.23 Stan Lemon Wait, what?

00:23:53.60 Jon And there were flurries in the first couple innings, yeah.

00:23:54.13 Stan Lemon Wait, wait, wait. It was snowing when we went to that game?

00:23:59.11 Stan Lemon Gosh, I don't remember that. That's actually not a bad park. um

00:24:03.02 Jon No, that's a cool little district around the park, too.

00:24:06.19 Stan Lemon Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. um God, what do we went to like Yardhouse or something, which is a it's a chain, but I don't remember there being a ton of them back then. Now I feel like they're everywhere. Okay, just some live dates for you. March 2024, we went to Bradenton to see the Pirates. The last game where I saw the Pirates play was in July, late July of 2023 at PNC Park. The Phillies were playing and the Pirates beat them. So there you go.

00:24:36.85 Jon All right.

00:24:36.97 Stan Lemon Yeah. and time Calendar, man.

00:24:39.79 Jon Where do you have this documented? Okay.

00:24:44.19 Stan Lemon Everything's in my calendar. i like I am so religious about my calendar that I can type in the word pirates and tell you exactly every game that I've ever seen, probably.

00:24:54.38 Jon All right.

00:24:55.59 Stan Lemon um You remember the time ah that I told you I saw Randy Johnson get into a fight with, I think it was like Doug McClavitch or something like that. Remember that?

00:25:06.97 Jon I don't.

00:25:07.85 Stan Lemon Oh, this a this is a fantastic story. So just just for the record, this is this the whole point of this was the calendar, right? So it was June 9th, 2008. It was a 1235 game, all right?

00:25:18.95 Stan Lemon And Miklavich is at bat. I think he he was like a five-tool guy. He rotated through. But for some reason, I feel like he was playing shortstop at this particular game. Yeah.

00:25:30.88 Stan Lemon He's up to bat. He's not a tall guy, but he was old school, man. Like he, he wore the stirrups and the whole nine yards. Right. And Randy Johnson's pitching again, diamondbacks. This is the end of his career. And, uh, there was something, the pirates are struggling, but there was something that Johnson did that ticked off McCleavich and he dropped his bat and he, he ran after Johnson on the mound and Johnson's like five feet taller than he is.

00:25:51.44 Jon Nice.

00:25:54.95 Stan Lemon Okay. um But the beauty of it was both dugouts cleared out whole big brouhaha. It was, it was absolutely exciting. And the other thing that i remember about this game, because again, it's a midday game, it's 1235. And this is, this is a Monday. It's a Monday. It's a 1235 game on a Monday. Nobody, nobody goes these things. Right.

00:26:15.59 Stan Lemon And the,

00:26:15.79 Jon Well, at that time, nobody was going to games anyway in Pittsburgh.

00:26:18.83 Stan Lemon Well, the yeah yeah, especially in Pittsburgh. but But like a Monday 12-3 game, that's just not like, normal people don't go to this one.

00:26:23.97 Jon Right.

00:26:26.33 Stan Lemon So there were a couple of old guys that were sitting just adjacent to us. We were between the home plate and first base, probably like seven or eight rows up from the line, right?

00:26:37.97 Stan Lemon Pretty pretty close.

00:26:39.36 Jon Yep.

00:26:39.47 Stan Lemon And these guys were just heckling Randy Johnson like none other over and over again. And because there's no one in the park, and they were loud, Randy could hear them, and he would turn and look and react. And I just like, to me, that is my favorite, probably my favorite baseball game of all time.

00:27:01.73 Jon Nice.

00:27:02.57 Stan Lemon Yeah. The other, another one that jumps out, like we saw Joe Torrey when he was at the Dodgers play. And we were like, I think we were in row that game. That was pretty cool. This was, this is like maybe his first, when did, when did Joe Torrey, hold on. When did Joe Torrey go to the Dodgers? Cause it was, I feel like this had to be early in.

00:27:23.91 Stan Lemon um He went in 2007. And so he managed the Dodgers for three seasons from 08 to 2010. I think it was the same year. 2008 was a great year for baseball. um And then who was the Nationals pitcher that was, that was ah oh my gosh, this is going to drive me nuts too.

00:27:40.07 Stan Lemon um Washington Nationals pitcher, fast one World Series. Strasburg. We saw Strasburg. That was in 2010, though. He came to Pittsburgh. This is this is a great time. this is a great time for for ah baseball. But we in that stretch, we also saw Richard Kind, the actor, at a Pirates baseball game.

00:28:04.52 Stan Lemon It was late. It was raining. It was cold. And we were going to watch the whole game. And it turns out that he's from Pittsburgh and he's a Pirates fan. And he was in the stadium, just the section over.

00:28:17.16 Stan Lemon um And he he had taken, I call them jewel bags because I'm from Chicago, but like grocery bags. And he had put his feet in them and put them into his shoes to keep his toes dry.

00:28:31.72 Stan Lemon This is Richard Kind, the actor from from Mad About You, right?

00:28:34.45 Jon Yep.

00:28:35.66 Stan Lemon um And we were like, Sarah spotted him. And I think this had to have been, well, oh wait, I wouldve had the original iPhone. So I think I like looked up who is this guy? Cause she's like, he's from Mad About You, blah, blah, blah, right?

00:28:48.01 Stan Lemon um And ah you know we found a picture on that itty bitty tiny screen, compared it. At the end of the game, she walks up to him and she says, Mr. Kind, I just wanted to let you know, you make me laugh.

00:29:01.32 Jon Nice.

00:29:01.99 Stan Lemon Yeah. How about that? Right.

00:29:03.47 Jon What was the response?

00:29:05.75 Stan Lemon Uh, I think he just, he chuckled and said, well it's nice to meet you or something like that. Like it was, it was, we were so cold. it was so, so windy. Like it just was, yeah. Um, it was as we were leaving, if I recall. Right.

00:29:18.10 Jon Nice.

00:29:18.12 Stan Lemon But that though I would say, uh, from 06 to I'm going to guess 2010, um,

00:29:25.64 Stan Lemon we went to a bunch of pirates baseball games, saw some really great ones. Like that's what I look at that period of time. Oh, six to 2010. That's how I became a pirates fan because we went to the park and the pirates were not good, but the team hadn't like, i don't know. They always felt like they were on the precipice of not sucking, you know?

00:29:48.20 Stan Lemon So how did we get on baseball?

00:29:50.14 Jon I don't know if I have... i don't remember. Because I asked you when the last time you watched baseball was. so But I don't remember why.

00:29:59.91 Stan Lemon You were gonna say though.

00:30:01.45 Jon i was going to say, I don't know if I have any games that specifically stick out because of the game. With the exception, and I was probably 10 years old, I saw Sammy Sosa playing in Milwaukee.

00:30:17.32 Stan Lemon Oh.

00:30:17.67 Jon So it must have been County Stadium at the time um during Sosa-McGuire season. home run race um yeah so i saw that uh also sat on a rooftop uh my dad had won tickets sat on a rooftop at wrigley um down the first baseline so that was pretty cool um yeah well maybe you should go stan

00:30:25.80 Stan Lemon That was epic. That was epic.

00:30:39.99 Stan Lemon I've never been to Wrigley.

00:30:44.34 Stan Lemon Someday, right? Yeah. um I saw Barry Bonds once. Actually, a couple times.

00:30:50.48 Jon now i think i only saw barry bonds as a coach not playing

00:30:51.18 Stan Lemon Yeah. ah

00:30:54.31 Stan Lemon So Pittsburgh would boo him like none other because he had been a pirate, right?

00:30:58.83 Jon Yeah.

00:31:00.31 Stan Lemon And he left like he was he was a drama queen. team was starting to get good. a whole bunch of just, you know, like noise. And then he left. um for big money. Right. And so the city hated him. I mean, they absolutely hated him. And the first game we were there, the whole crowd just erupts booing at this guy. And I, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't know anything. Right. I'd stopped watching him. I stopped. the live I'd stopped watching baseball back in was it 98 with the big strike. and And I had been a Detroit Tigers fan up until that point. So I didn't know anything. Yeah.

00:31:34.47 Stan Lemon Crazy times, man. Crazy times.

00:31:38.06 Jon Well, Stan, maybe we should meet in Milwaukee and take Aaron Finker to a game.

00:31:42.38 Stan Lemon that would be a blast. We could take Aaron, maybe even, uh, AJ along too, and catch a game and I'll buy tickets, uh, so that they're not in seats that I hate. Yeah.

00:31:55.11 Jon Have you been to Miller Park?

00:31:57.35 Stan Lemon I have not, I would like to.

00:31:58.69 Jon that's a That's a nice stadium too.

00:32:00.84 Stan Lemon Yeah. Um, is that so like,

00:32:04.75 Jon like It's American Family Field now, but.

00:32:08.48 Stan Lemon it'll always be another park, right? It's just like, like Accra's stadium is still Heinz field for me. Um, so PNC park was built in like the style of old baseball parks, but with conveniences and the red stadium is like just before PNC park.

00:32:12.86 Jon Right.

00:32:19.66 Jon Hmm.

00:32:23.14 Stan Lemon So kind of has the, the beginnings of that. Is that the style that, that, uh, Miller park was built in? Do you know?

00:32:29.48 Jon ah Miller Park is very much modern. They got the retractable roof.

00:32:32.65 Stan Lemon Okay. Okay.

00:32:34.35 Jon um The seats in the outfield actually angle away from the field so they could multipurpose it for shows and things like that.

00:32:42.48 Stan Lemon Oh, listen, multipurpose stadiums are the worst thing in the world. They're, they're absolutely, they like people who hate sports build multipurpose fields.

00:32:55.24 Stan Lemon I'm sorry to hear that.

00:32:56.30 Jon In general, if you don't sit, you know, in the outfield, in the outfield, you're fine.

00:32:56.52 Stan Lemon Well,

00:33:00.07 Stan Lemon in that one section. Yeah.

00:33:02.41 Jon Okay.

00:33:02.79 Stan Lemon Yeah.

00:33:02.89 Jon Oh, no.

00:33:03.59 Stan Lemon ah Well, at least baseball is not, a you know, people's sport. So, okay. Um, let's shift gears a little bit. I had a thought. I wanted to pick your brain. Uh, dear listener, there has been no preparation for Jonathan for what's about to happen.

00:33:21.42 Jon no

00:33:22.09 Stan Lemon Yeah. All right. I do believe that the twisties say you don't talk enough, right? Right.

00:33:27.88 Jon um One of them listened to the TV episode and said that I talked much more during that episode.

00:33:33.77 Stan Lemon right You came in about 25% of total word count. right

00:33:36.87 Jon Right.

00:33:37.51 Stan Lemon So last week you regressed a little bit. You went down to, do you know ah do you know what the was

00:33:41.93 Jon I have no idea. Okay.

00:33:43.80 Stan Lemon what the percentage 23%. A little bit of regression. So we're going to skew it back towards Kohlmeier today with a little section a little segment sorry a little segment that I'd like to call Ask the Kohlmeier.

00:33:58.70 Jon Ask the Kohlmeyer.

00:33:59.69 Stan Lemon Ask the Kohlmeier. Here's today's topic.

00:34:00.94 Jon I'm not a man of many words.

00:34:02.70 Stan Lemon you that

00:34:02.79 Jon I observe, I listen, and I ask questions.

00:34:05.76 Stan Lemon There you go. So I'm doing the asking today. all right.

00:34:09.02 Jon All right.

00:34:09.12 Stan Lemon And you, your, your job, you are not allowed to answer any question with yes, no, or maybe. Okay.

00:34:15.36 Jon Well, don't ask questions then.

00:34:19.15 Stan Lemon your Your job is to supply at least one tweet's worth of words for an answer. Okay? So if i ask you a question, if I ask you a question, yes or no.

00:34:26.19 Jon All right. Are they still called tweets?

00:34:30.03 Stan Lemon I don't know. is it You can't say X's. Like, that just sounds weird. um If I ask you a question and your answer is yes, you have to explain why. Okay? that these are the These are the rules of the segment.

00:34:38.64 Jon Okay.

00:34:40.18 Stan Lemon Okay?

00:34:40.61 Jon That's two questions, but okay.

00:34:42.84 Stan Lemon I'm like, listen, it's my segment it's my segment.

00:34:45.71 Jon You make the rules.

00:34:47.44 Stan Lemon I make the rules. It just happens to be about you. All right.

00:34:50.28 Jon All right.

00:34:50.81 Stan Lemon So ah this is this Today's segment is going to be about how you use your Macintosh.

00:34:57.26 Jon Okay.

00:34:57.93 Stan Lemon Okay. And let's just lay the ground rules by first starting with, Jonathan, when did you first use a Mac? Okay.

00:35:09.96 Jon I first used a Mac

00:35:15.69 Jon in memory probably 1992.

00:35:23.08 Stan Lemon And what were you doing?

00:35:24.90 Jon um I remember specifically there was this Indiana Jones game where we had to swap out the floppy disk. And what else?

00:35:34.99 Jon So my dad got like...

00:35:36.49 Stan Lemon you Your dad had one?

00:35:37.74 Jon the Yeah.

00:35:39.34 Stan Lemon okay

00:35:40.27 Jon and so he And he got like the giant hard disk thing that it sat on top of too. um so So I remember that. i think I remember...

00:35:51.96 Jon Mavis Beacon or some kind of typing thing going on then.

00:35:54.06 Stan Lemon Oh, yeah.

00:35:56.49 Jon um

00:35:56.71 Stan Lemon Yeah, Mavis Beacon.

00:35:58.99 Jon Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego was another one.

00:36:02.53 Stan Lemon Classic.

00:36:03.34 Jon And I very much remember the ah swapping the floppies in and out.

00:36:10.07 Stan Lemon Okay. All right. So first, that's pretty early on. That's earlier than I would be able, like in my lifetime, be able to say I used a Mac. You eventually start using Windows computers, though, right?

00:36:22.45 Jon Eventually. So there were a couple of Mac iterations after that. Really, it was the Performa that ended that.

00:36:28.62 Stan Lemon oh

00:36:29.34 Jon And that and then my dad bought a Windows desktop.

00:36:29.67 Stan Lemon Oh, the Performa ended everything.

00:36:34.86 Stan Lemon Yeah, Performa was one of the best things that ever happened to Microsoft. Good Lord.

00:36:40.04 Jon And then we were on Windows.

00:36:44.36 Jon I mean, we were on Windows through me being in a high school, so that would have been 2007. At some point, I buy a laptop that had Windows Vista on it, but was not powered to run Windows Vista, at which point I switched to Ubuntu and joined the Linux world for a while.

00:37:09.96 Stan Lemon I think it's worth noting at this point that most of the computers that shipped with Vista did not actually run Vista. but like I mean, well, they they were, like we're talking about, these were, I don't know.

00:37:18.65 Jon Yep.

00:37:23.79 Stan Lemon i don't know what Vista's deal was. This was peak Microsoft shipping hardware that couldn't run, or sorry, the the the um x86 computer companies shipping machines with Vista that could not run Vista.

00:37:39.27 Jon So this was around 2007.

00:37:42.12 Stan Lemon Okay. 2007. So Vista, is that what killed it for you?

00:37:47.63 Jon Yep, so Vista made me switch to Linux and Ubuntu for a year or two.

00:37:54.86 Stan Lemon All right. and what happens next?

00:37:59.59 Jon Then i buy a 13-inch white MacBook that has been refurbished.

00:38:07.37 Stan Lemon Okay. All right. And is that the, that's like, have you owned a Windows computer like yourself? I know you use one at work today, but have you owned a Windows computer since then?

00:38:17.55 Jon I have not.

00:38:18.70 Stan Lemon All right. And the, the transition from Ubuntu to the MacBook, ah like what, what's going through your head?

00:38:28.30 Jon um Part of it was peer pressure, because at that time the nonprofit we worked at were all in on Mac. You and I had started talking. You were the biggest Apple fanboy ever for a time.

00:38:41.87 Jon Perhaps you still are. Perhaps not.

00:38:43.05 Stan Lemon Well, I love the Mac.

00:38:43.47 Jon but

00:38:44.25 Stan Lemon I absolutely love the Mac. Yeah.

00:38:46.60 Jon um So

00:38:47.18 Stan Lemon I may waffle on other things, Jonathan, but i the Mac I love. Yeah.

00:38:51.08 Jon yeah, and that's really when I started. i was doing more work, and like it didn't make sense for me to compile stuff. Our acquaintance wanted me to get into playing World of Warcraft, um which is difficult to run ah through Ubuntu.

00:39:08.17 Jon And yeah, so that was that. So I bought that refurbed MacBook 13.

00:39:16.01 Jon four years maybe, and then I inherited workhorse MacBook 2008 or nine, maybe fall 2009.

00:39:22.03 Stan Lemon Okay, do you recall, do you know like roughly what year we're talking about when this MacBook 13-inch comes out?

00:39:29.03 Jon thousand and eight or nine maybe fall two thousand and nine

00:39:35.43 Stan Lemon Okay. 2009, when does the MacBook 13-inch come out? Let's see if I can find a date. um Oh, see, this is so tricky because they're there it's all showing me the M5s and I want the original.

00:39:47.59 Stan Lemon Okay, we'll look up that later. Okay, all right, so you...

00:39:50.28 Jon But it was definitely refurbed. I'm fairly certain it was refurbed. I didn't buy new.

00:39:54.22 Stan Lemon did Could you ever tell? Yeah. apple Apple refurbs are legit. I bought a ah couple of refurbs. No regrets. all right. So longtime Mac user, Jonathan Kohlmeyer, is now going to describe to us how he uses his Mac.

00:40:12.75 Jon Very much to record this podcast.

00:40:15.39 Stan Lemon All right.

00:40:16.65 Jon um Do you have a follow-up question there?

00:40:19.63 Stan Lemon Oh, i've got I've got lots of love questions. So Jonathan, Right now on your Mac, where's your dock? Is it to the left, to the bottom or to the right?

00:40:29.19 Jon I have to check because I hardly use It it is to the left.

00:40:32.87 Stan Lemon To the left, okay. And this is maybe the next question. Do you have auto hide on? All right, so why is it on your left with auto hide?

00:40:38.19 Jon Yes.

00:40:42.51 Jon Probably because I never use it

00:40:45.45 Stan Lemon I don't believe it comes out of the box, Jonathan, on the left. It comes out of the box on the bottom.

00:40:51.50 Jon so Honestly, this has been carried over across many, many computers. um

00:40:57.23 Stan Lemon So any any speculation why you configured it to use the left?

00:41:01.48 Jon So definitely auto hide I did because of it takes up too much space otherwise, especially when you don't have an external display. um On the left, I don't know if you convinced me to put it on the left or um if it comes from the gaming days.

00:41:21.55 Stan Lemon Why would gaming have made you put it to the left?

00:41:24.87 Jon because in World of Warcraft specifically, at the bottom is where all the controls are.

00:41:31.34 Stan Lemon Okay. So World Warcraft is why it's on your left. Today, I know you say you don't use it a lot, but today, if you hover over your dock, what apps do you have there?

00:41:44.30 Jon I have Finder, Messages, Safari, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, FaceTime, Numbers, App Store. I have Simple Note here still, Stan, which I probably haven't opened in at least two years.

00:42:00.59 Stan Lemon So you' your your doc literally has just junk.

00:42:05.17 Jon Defaults.

00:42:06.57 Stan Lemon Well, some defaults it sounds like.

00:42:06.62 Jon Well, yeah. ah ah

00:42:08.41 Stan Lemon Is mail in the in the doc?

00:42:10.63 Jon Mail is not in the dock. I also do not use mail on my MacBook.

00:42:15.20 Stan Lemon Oh, at all.

00:42:17.18 Jon at all.

00:42:18.31 Stan Lemon Wow, okay, so how do you check your email?

00:42:21.23 Jon ah Generally, I use Gmail in a pinned tab in Safari.

00:42:26.30 Stan Lemon Okay, interesting. Tell me, why have you never configured Gmail to pop up into Apple Mail?

00:42:33.45 Jon It probably is configured there. i just don't love the mail experience on the Mac.

00:42:40.56 Stan Lemon When was the last time you tried the mail experience on the map? The Mac, excuse me.

00:42:44.59 Jon Several years.

00:42:45.90 Stan Lemon Okay. All right.

00:42:46.89 Jon I do use the mail app on my iPad and my iPhone.

00:42:47.25 Stan Lemon Interesting.

00:42:51.11 Stan Lemon Oh, even more fascinating. All right. ah You said FaceTime is on your doc. what was the last time you clicked the FaceTime app?

00:42:59.98 Jon Probably when we record the podcast over FaceTime.

00:43:03.50 Stan Lemon That was it was several years ago.

00:43:03.63 Jon So in in first instance, yes.

00:43:05.41 Stan Lemon Yeah. Okay. No music app in the doc?

00:43:09.71 Jon No music app in the dock. I don't know how often I open music on my computer either.

00:43:15.40 Stan Lemon Fascinating. Okay. But numbers is there, I presume for budgeting stuff.

00:43:19.40 Jon Numbers as i are probably from budgeting stuff. I guess I still use it fairly regularly for budgeting stuff.

00:43:25.85 Stan Lemon Okay. All right. We've learned a lot. Now, um next question, light mode, dark mode, or auto switch?

00:43:34.01 Jon I'm in light mode right now, so I assume it's just light mode.

00:43:38.32 Stan Lemon On your, really? You don't auto switch on your Mac?

00:43:43.65 Jon I'll go into settings and see you, Stan.

00:43:45.83 Stan Lemon It's quite, it's quite late there, Jonathan. I would think that you would have, okay. All right. Hold up. but On your iPad, do you have auto switch enabled or no?

00:43:54.51 Jon I would have to look on the iPad. I do on the phone.

00:43:58.45 Stan Lemon This is so fascinating. I find it intriguing that your settings, they don't match across your surface areas. And also that like this this mail thing is blowing my mind. You don't use it on the Mac, but you use it everywhere else.

00:44:14.44 Jon Right.

00:44:15.15 Stan Lemon So what's the verdict? Auto switch on or ah or not?

00:44:17.84 Jon I can't even find where it is, Stan.

00:44:19.59 Stan Lemon Oh, Jonathan, you go up to system settings and then you go to appearance.

00:44:26.70 Jon ence Appearance, there we go. I was in displays. It is default.

00:44:33.00 Stan Lemon The default is auto for me, Jonathan. What does that mean?

00:44:39.31 Jon Folder color is automatic. OK, so I'm appearances auto mode.

00:44:44.78 Stan Lemon Okay, so you do use dark mode. You have no idea how use it. What's your liquid glass setting? Are you clear or tinted?

00:44:51.08 Jon Why is my like, why am I not in dark mode, Stan? if it

00:44:55.59 Stan Lemon Well, the the next discussion would be around your night shift. Do you have night shift enabled or any of those settings?

00:45:02.67 Jon So I have clear liquid glass on.

00:45:06.05 Stan Lemon Okay.

00:45:07.27 Jon Where the are the night shift settings?

00:45:09.67 Stan Lemon So if you go, they ruin system settings. I love this. Dear listener, we're teaching Jonathan how to use his Mac in real time. So go to the displays option on system settings.

00:45:23.05 Stan Lemon And then you'll see at the bottom, there's an advanced button and there's a night shift button. And a night shift has a schedule sunset to sunrise and then color temperature.

00:45:33.61 Jon Night shift is off. My guess is because i got annoyed at things looking dirty.

00:45:39.74 Stan Lemon Oh, interesting. So I, I think this is what drives the, the auto dark mode. Cause I feel like, see on, on, um,

00:45:51.66 Stan Lemon On the phone, this is so much more intuitive, but pretty sure that's what drives it, Jonathan.

00:45:58.15 Jon So I should turn it on.

00:45:59.99 Stan Lemon Well, try it and see what goes on. I mean, you know, I have um i have a much more different gradient in terms of... ah Jonathan, oh, this is interesting.

00:46:11.70 Stan Lemon on See, on the um light until sunset is an option for the appearance...

00:46:17.16 Jon I wonder if it's not. Sunset has surely happened already. It's been rainy all day.

00:46:21.45 Stan Lemon All right, well, we'll just leave that. let's Let's keep going, let's keep going here. Okay, your desktop right now, what do you have on your desktop?

00:46:25.39 Jon All right.

00:46:28.84 Jon A whole bunch of crap, Stan.

00:46:31.21 Stan Lemon Really, like, are okay, are we talking about like five things, 10 things, 20 things?

00:46:35.95 Jon Way more. ah it's mostly mostly a bunch of screenshots, which just need to be cleaned up.

00:46:37.07 Stan Lemon Really?

00:46:40.87 Jon And this is a testament to how many um how little I use my MacBook these days. So let me get

00:46:48.17 Stan Lemon Do you use stacks on your desktop?

00:46:53.19 Jon it. Stacks? No, I have widgets.

00:46:58.41 Stan Lemon Do you know, okay, hold on, wait, do you know what stacks are?

00:47:00.91 Jon I do not.

00:47:02.55 Stan Lemon All right, on your desktop, right click and check use stacks. Let's see what John's reaction is.

00:47:10.38 Jon Hey, that's pretty cool.

00:47:12.11 Stan Lemon All right, Jonathan, what happened?

00:47:15.26 Jon Ooh, I don't really like ah how it expands, though. So basically, I've got, like, smart folders.

00:47:22.54 Stan Lemon It groups things logically is what I would say, yeah.

00:47:27.44 Jon Boom. Now it's going to make me not actually go in and delete a bunch of stuff, Stan.

00:47:31.43 Stan Lemon Do you need to delete anything? Like what's your what's your hard drive usage right now, Jonathan?

00:47:36.49 Jon I probably do not need to delete anything.

00:47:39.69 Stan Lemon Do you know how to find your hard drive?

00:47:40.04 Jon My iPad is a different story. So generally, I'm going to go to my home folder, and I have 621 gigabytes available.

00:47:49.04 Stan Lemon Okay, all right. So you don't need to delete anything in your desktop. Use stacks. right, all right. Let's go on to the next thing.

00:47:53.55 Jon But it's junk, Stan.

00:47:54.99 Stan Lemon yeah

00:47:57.83 Stan Lemon I feel like this is a segue into the inbox zero generation topic, but we won't do that today. Do you use mission control?

00:48:06.00 Jon No, not on. I don't really use Mission Control at all.

00:48:07.24 Stan Lemon Do you know what mission control is?

00:48:09.13 Jon I do.

00:48:10.28 Stan Lemon Okay.

00:48:11.48 Jon I might even have it on a hot corner.

00:48:11.51 Stan Lemon you' like You don't like it? Oh, that was another question I was gonna ask. i was gonna ask, do you have a hot corner configured?

00:48:19.52 Jon I don't have Mission Control configured.

00:48:23.72 Stan Lemon Okay, at all. So even if you do like a three finger swipe up or down,

00:48:29.70 Jon Ooh, there we go.

00:48:30.70 Stan Lemon Ah, so you do have Mission Control, you just never use it. Which probably means you don't use Spaces then as well.

00:48:36.89 Jon I do not.

00:48:37.90 Stan Lemon Okay, do you use Stage Manager?

00:48:40.91 Jon I do not.

00:48:41.93 Stan Lemon All right, so Mission Control, Spaces, Stage Manager, all window management tools. Jonathan, why don't you use these?

00:48:51.32 Jon Because I haven't had a need, Stan.

00:48:54.19 Stan Lemon How many apps do you have running right now?

00:48:57.55 Jon Three.

00:48:59.35 Stan Lemon I have nine.

00:49:02.15 Jon Well, four if you count system settings, which I haven't closed yet.

00:49:06.06 Stan Lemon All right. All right. Uh, have you ever used quick note?

00:49:12.04 Jon I have, not recently.

00:49:14.79 Stan Lemon Okay. And, why not?

00:49:20.27 Jon I mean, usually I have the Notes app open now when I'm on my Mac to record the podcast.

00:49:26.15 Stan Lemon Okay. So you just, just use, you always have the notes app. home That's fine. That's fine. Um, what does spotlight do 2026? Jonathan.

00:49:34.89 Jon Now that is pretty much how I launch everything. so

00:49:38.28 Stan Lemon Which is what I would have guessed based upon the fact that your doc seems to be completely rotten. um okay So you use spotlight for for what?

00:49:49.16 Jon Mostly to launch apps on the Mac.

00:49:52.14 Stan Lemon Do you ever look for files?

00:49:54.85 Jon No.

00:49:56.10 Stan Lemon No. Do you ever use it to find a phone number an email address?

00:50:00.20 Jon um I will use it to find a contact if needed. Again, that generally is not happening on my MacBook that's going to happen on my phone.

00:50:09.95 Stan Lemon Huh. So have you ever like opened up spotlight and typed Tim McGraw and then filtered to music?

00:50:19.31 Jon have not no

00:50:20.36 Stan Lemon No. Oh, all right. So you don't use it to just kick up a random song.

00:50:25.45 Jon not on the mac no again i don't use the music app on my mac i'm just gonna say hey dingus and it's gonna play on my home pod mini so with tim mcgraw yes

00:50:28.34 Stan Lemon All This is fascinating. This fascinating.

00:50:34.31 Stan Lemon But will it, will it though? That's the question. With Tim McGraw. Here, we could try this. Hey, Dingus, play Tim McGraw in the kitchen.

00:50:46.54 Stan Lemon John, the the HomePod didn't even light up. It didn't even pretend to light.

00:50:49.32 Jon Well, that's because you said the word so that we don't set off everybody else.

00:50:51.34 Stan Lemon Oh, I said Dingus. ah

00:50:53.08 Jon ah

00:50:55.14 Stan Lemon it's it's not I even realize what I was doing. Hey, Siri, play Tim McGraw in the kitchen.

00:51:03.53 Stan Lemon if I wonder...

00:51:08.55 Stan Lemon oh Oh, I played it in the kitchen, Jonathan. That is a rare success of Siri. Speaking of which, do you ever use Siri on...

00:51:14.79 Jon You get into more trouble when you ask for a specific song.

00:51:21.26 Stan Lemon if They're trying to figure how stop it at the other room. I love it. ah what Do you do you use Siri on your Mac at all?

00:51:31.93 Jon No.

00:51:33.13 Stan Lemon Do you have the hey dingus thing even set up on your Mac?

00:51:36.65 Jon I do.

00:51:37.99 Stan Lemon Okay.

00:51:38.12 Jon I didn't even test out Apple Intelligence on the Mac when it came out. So

00:51:44.03 Stan Lemon Do you even have it enabled then?

00:51:46.96 Jon I think I do have it enabled.

00:51:49.61 Stan Lemon Huh. I have just recently re-enabled the Hey Dingus on the Mac. I actually had it turned off for a while.

00:51:59.82 Jon Well, generally, if you say it in your office, how many devices are going to light up?

00:52:04.62 Stan Lemon ah One, two, three, four, five, maybe six, maybe six. Yeah, so, but it's a light day in the office. um I did switch to doing the press command twice and it'll pull up Siri.

00:52:17.80 Stan Lemon Does yours do that?

00:52:17.83 Jon Interesting.

00:52:22.09 Jon Yes.

00:52:22.95 Stan Lemon Oh, there we go, okay. All right, so Jonathan has that. All right, Jonathan, do you consider yourself a power user?

00:52:30.31 Jon Probably not on the Mac anymore.

00:52:32.20 Stan Lemon Not anymore, okay.

00:52:33.42 Jon I don't think I'm really a power user in anything except HubSpot these days.

00:52:38.62 Stan Lemon Oh, what about the Vision Pro? Surely you're power user on the Vision Pro, Jonathan.

00:52:42.41 Jon I mean, I use the Vision Pro occasionally, um but does that make me a power user?

00:52:48.52 Stan Lemon In the world of Vision Pro, I would dare say yes. If you use it once every three weeks, you are a power user.

00:52:56.86 Jon I have installed the YouTube app, um and occasionally I'll put it on to watch something on the TV app.

00:53:06.38 Stan Lemon i am I mostly use the Juno app for YouTube because I bought that. i don't even remember. It like it cost something. But I bought that originally.

00:53:15.36 Jon Probably functions better than the YouTube app last time I tried it.

00:53:17.45 Stan Lemon if It probably does, but I i don't even know what it looks like when I open it. It's probably just a, I don't know. It's probably just a Safari browser version of YouTube. But yeah.

00:53:28.30 Jon So I think Retrocade put out a Vision Pro thing, which I'm interested to try.

00:53:33.77 Stan Lemon I don't know what this is, Jonathan.

00:53:35.59 Jon It's like an Apple Arcade thing that has all the classic games on it. Not all of them, but you could play like Galaga.

00:53:44.04 Stan Lemon is that Is that your jam?

00:53:46.58 Jon I mean, there is a nostalgic piece of me that enjoys that kind of stuff.

00:53:51.75 Stan Lemon Oh, I see. They've got the old Centipede and Frogger. and

00:53:55.66 Jon Astroids.

00:53:56.87 Stan Lemon how do they How do they have the rights to these? Pac-Man? i mean, these are all trademarked and copyrighted and who knows what else. They must be doing some crazy licensing.

00:54:09.64 Stan Lemon Huh. Well, all right. So you've thought about installing it though. You have not you have not installed it.

00:54:16.84 Jon I am not on the Vision Pro. I actually i was watching movies on my TV this weekend too, Stan, instead of in the Vision Pro, so that was probably a miss.

00:54:18.41 Stan Lemon I feel like that.

00:54:25.00 Stan Lemon Why?

00:54:26.76 Jon I don't know.

00:54:28.23 Stan Lemon So this this is this fascinating to me, right? Because you are the Vision Pro Sycophant in my life. You're the only person I know that has one besides myself.

00:54:37.40 Jon Right.

00:54:37.51 Stan Lemon um And I don't think,

00:54:38.54 Jon Which i pretty much forced your hand to buy it, didn't

00:54:41.76 Stan Lemon Well, I couldn't imagine a world in which you had one and I didn't. Like I was i was getting serious FOMO leading up to it.

00:54:44.78 Jon Right.

00:54:48.33 Stan Lemon um But i I almost suspect that I might use it more often than you.

00:54:53.99 Jon I go through spurts. So recently, probably that's true.

00:54:58.43 Stan Lemon What's the last thing that you watched on the Vision Pro?

00:55:01.48 Jon Probably shrinking. One of the episodes are shrinking.

00:55:04.95 Stan Lemon Oh, you watched Shrinking?

00:55:05.29 Jon Um,

00:55:05.99 Stan Lemon Why Shrinking? and like i If I'm going pull the Vision Pro, that's probably not not where I'm going.

00:55:10.54 Jon I mean, generally, um it's a basically controlled environment. It's like my, ah what do they call those rooms?

00:55:23.02 Jon I don't know. But I can basically shut out the rest of the world if I go in and I have my noise cancellation on and I'm looking at the moon or Jupiter or whatever in the background. And then I've got the TV, as big as a movie screen.

00:55:34.54 Stan Lemon you're You're either describing like an insane asylum or a man cave. I'm actually not sure which.

00:55:38.15 Jon ah Oh, it's like a... What are they called?

00:55:44.84 Stan Lemon Like a blackout room or something?

00:55:47.40 Jon Something like that like cuts down on the senses.

00:55:49.19 Stan Lemon Huh.

00:55:52.49 Stan Lemon Okay, we're getting into the crazy train area, but that's all right. I'll embrace it versus it. Have you watched a Night at the BBC proms?

00:56:00.19 Jon No.

00:56:01.74 Stan Lemon Oh, I think you'd actually like this. It's a it's a concert, a classical music concert. It's it's pretty cool.

00:56:07.56 Jon Okay. How new is that?

00:56:09.67 Stan Lemon That makes, I don't know, a few weeks. I watched a while ago. This is why I'm surprised. like i wo When was the last time you're certain you put on the Vision Pro?

00:56:21.93 Jon I do not know.

00:56:23.15 Stan Lemon Okay. So the world's most expensive paperweight. Funny enough though, I'm just going to digress for a minute.

00:56:28.20 Jon I did charge it so that I didn't have to wait for 10 minutes before I put it on next time, so...

00:56:28.36 Stan Lemon Um,

00:56:33.48 Stan Lemon yeah Mine is pretty much plugged into the wall all the time. So it's never not charged, but i I listened to an episode of the versions podcast recently.

00:56:44.71 Stan Lemon So from the verge, you know, I've talked about this before and they did an episode just about the Mac and

00:56:45.21 Jon Mm-hmm.

00:56:54.54 Stan Lemon talked about the 1984 commercial, like all the things, right? And talked about the cost versus the power and like it wasn't quite ready for mass adoption.

00:57:06.47 Stan Lemon And ah John Gruber, who was a guest on this episode, constantly made reference to the Vision Pro being similar in the sense that it was an early prototype of the thing that would take over, you know, the technology space.

00:57:22.28 Stan Lemon All this to say, he seems to be bullish on the long-term perspective of the Vision Pro. i'm so I'm still out. The jury's still out for me. In fact, I got an ad for refurbished meta glasses from Ray-Bans.

00:57:38.99 Stan Lemon And I'm a little bit curious. I'm a little bit curious because I think that's actually the form factor that I want. Yeah.

00:57:44.55 Jon Yeah, the Vision Pro is heavy.

00:57:47.65 Stan Lemon It's very heavy. All of the things that they showed and demoed where people are out and about with it, I think those are totally made up. I don't think those are really use cases.

00:57:56.04 Jon Yeah, like, i what was the cool, like, cooking app that they had?

00:57:56.09 Stan Lemon I'm always, always said.

00:57:59.64 Jon And, like, I can't imagine cooking with this thing on.

00:58:03.02 Stan Lemon Oh, yeah. Um, Man, I can see it. I can see the app. but i I don't remember i can't remember. I can't imagine cooking with it either too. Like the the splatter. I don't think I'd want to get the splatter of stuff you're cooking on it. Like, I don't know.

00:58:16.62 Stan Lemon It just, it doesn't, I'm not there. I think it's an entertainment device. That's that's what I'm pretty sure it is. It's basically an iPod.

00:58:21.83 Jon I think that there's probably a productivity play too with um the massive Mac screen. um i think there is some improvement to go to make that more seamless. um I don't know if technology is there do it.

00:58:35.37 Stan Lemon When was the last time you did that, the extended display?

00:58:38.67 Jon um Probably December.

00:58:42.09 Stan Lemon Okay, were you out in public or you just at home?

00:58:44.46 Jon Just at home.

00:58:45.45 Stan Lemon Have you ever worn it out in public?

00:58:47.72 Jon I have not, i have considered taking it on an airplane. The problem is the size again. And like, do I really want to carry this s thing around when I travel?

00:58:56.68 Stan Lemon Everyone and their mother will talk to you about it when you pull it out.

00:59:00.17 Jon Yeah, see, that's just a a good reason for my introverted self to not.

00:59:06.28 Stan Lemon I have gone to a coffee shop with it, with my Mac for the extended display capability. I actually really like that as a, as a feature. um I do sometimes think that I should have gotten the eye inserts, the glasses inserts, but maybe it's, maybe I still can't.

00:59:22.78 Stan Lemon i don't know. Maybe I should just try them out.

00:59:23.92 Jon I think you can.

00:59:25.48 Stan Lemon I don't know. Are those, are those mostly for near sighted people or far sighted people?

00:59:30.22 Jon They're for farsighted people, meaning you can't see things close to you

00:59:35.47 Stan Lemon yes Yeah, see, I'm I'm nearsighted. so

00:59:42.15 Stan Lemon But i'm I'm not too far from reading glasses, I'm sure, Jonathan. all right, last thing. Last thing before we wrap up. Othello, have you started Othello?

00:59:50.19 Jon I have started Othello. I am in Act 2.

00:59:55.47 Jon I finished Scene 1. Scene 2 is like a paragraph, and I don't think I've read it yet.

01:00:00.36 Stan Lemon Okay. I am in scene one of act two, and i'm I'm just curious because you've never read Othello.

01:00:07.99 Jon I've never read Othello.

01:00:09.13 Stan Lemon You're not done. I'm not going to ask you to judge the whole play, but first impressions, act one impressions.

01:00:17.64 Jon Act 1 impressions. um

01:00:23.27 Jon Right now it is taking me time to understand what's going on, um which I think is typical of the non-popular Shakespeare plays. Like, super popular. um But right now i am intrigued on how he is setting up the characters and where this will all lead.

01:00:45.31 Stan Lemon You're on desert island. You can choose one person for the rest of your life. It's either Iago, Rodrigo, or Brabantino.

01:00:56.23 Stan Lemon Who do you choose?

01:01:01.69 Stan Lemon It's tough, right? This is a play of jerks.

01:01:04.01 Jon Maybe, maybe Rodrigo.

01:01:06.67 Stan Lemon Oh, fascinating. i'll be Okay, so the act one...

01:01:10.57 Jon I think Iago could be fun, but he also will probably eat me, so...

01:01:14.67 Stan Lemon Yeah, he'll eat. me um All right. So act one act one, John wants to be on a desert island with Rodrigo. Just to be clear, I've read it a couple times. Of those three, I'm choosing Brabantino.

01:01:25.55 Stan Lemon But we'll we'll get your act two take um here in a future episode. That's fascinating. i i would not have I would not have guessed that. But um you...

01:01:34.70 Jon I mean, Braventino, I think ah you probably like his style more than I do. so

01:01:42.11 Stan Lemon He's the angry father. yeah you You will be him someday.

01:01:43.73 Jon Right.

01:01:44.91 Stan Lemon I already am. That's what it amounts to. Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, Jonathan, I am looking forward to hearing your updates. This is one that I have read several times, as I think I mentioned in a previous episode.

01:01:56.81 Stan Lemon um And so I am looking forward to getting your take because I like this one. Othello is near and dear to my heart. Yeah.

01:02:03.56 Jon So far I like Othello, but I think I see where the tragedy is headed.

01:02:05.90 Stan Lemon Yeah.

01:02:09.48 Stan Lemon Oh, that's funny.

01:02:10.63 Jon ah

01:02:11.15 Stan Lemon You have no background on the story then?

01:02:13.55 Jon No, I don't.

01:02:14.70 Stan Lemon Okay. There was a movie a number of years ago for Othello and I never saw it. I wonder if it's any good.

01:02:21.11 Jon I did not see it.

01:02:22.02 Stan Lemon It's probably not, but.

01:02:23.08 Jon Actually, different topic, but you know what I watched last night?

01:02:27.69 Stan Lemon What?

01:02:28.68 Jon Clear and Present Danger.

01:02:30.63 Stan Lemon Oh, that's an old movie, isn't it?

01:02:32.23 Jon Yes, yes it is. um

01:02:33.99 Stan Lemon How did it stand up?

01:02:35.93 Jon Harrison Ford's acting is better in shrinking than it is in Clear and Present Danger.

01:02:40.68 Stan Lemon Oh, fascinating. Because I feel like he's not serious.

01:02:43.59 Jon You feel like he always always plays the same character. um So shrinking, I think, is worth your time, Stan.

01:02:49.58 Stan Lemon So he's not he's not Han Solo in shrinking.

01:02:53.39 Jon Correct.

01:02:54.38 Stan Lemon Okay. Because, you know, he was Han Solo in Indiana Jones.

01:02:57.61 Jon Correct.

01:02:58.63 Stan Lemon And what's the one who is president on the plane?

01:03:02.51 Stan Lemon Air Force One, right?

01:03:03.05 Jon um Air Force One, yeah.

01:03:04.39 Stan Lemon Yeah. yeah Because that was Han Solo in Air Force One.

01:03:08.08 Jon Fair

01:03:08.68 Stan Lemon Yeah. I'm not sure if you've seen him recently on any of the late night shows, but that's basically Han Solo. Yeah. All right.

01:03:15.98 Jon enough. Was he Han Solo in ah the Avengers movie that I haven't watched?

01:03:20.55 Stan Lemon Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah.

01:03:21.74 Jon Yeah.

01:03:22.79 Stan Lemon Han Solo pretending to be the the general. I'm blanking on his name now. um Yeah. Han Solo is Red Hulk. Like, it yeah, that was a bust. I had high hopes for him in that role too, but you know, what can you do So yeah.

01:03:37.51 Stan Lemon right, Jonathan, I think that's as good a place as any to end a blending of Othello, Han Solo, and Marvel. What more could Liz possibly ask for?

01:03:45.64 Jon And Max.

01:03:46.86 Stan Lemon And Max, and Max. There were Max earlier. All right, Jonathan, we'll talk to you next time, my friend.

01:03:49.11 Jon Yeah. All right. Later. Bye.
